Rapé Caupuri

I crafted Rapé Caupuri using the ashes of the potent Caupuri vine, one of the strongest Caapi varieties from Brazil. Known for its exceptional strength, this snuff carries a high vibration, allowing you to connect deeply with the caapi vine’s spirit. The combination with sabiá mapacho enhances its power, creating an intense experience.

This is a one-of-a-kind rapé, available exclusively here. It lasts until the ash is fully used. After testing several variations, I created a well-balanced recipe for this new type of rapé. Friends involved in the testing stage reported rapé Caupuri has a unique energetic signature. It brings a strong initial hit followed by a long and deep meditative state.

In my shop, I also offer other types of rapé made with the ashes of the Banisteriopsis caapi strain called Ourinhos (little gold). These include rapé rapé Mariri and the Aya types each with unique characteristics and effects.

A Personal Tale about the Origins of this Caupuri Ash.

This Brazilian Caupuri ash comes from the vines of a subspecies of Banisteriopsis caapi. Known for its exceptional potency, the Caupuri vine holds a special place among caapi varieties. My friend Paco, who lives in the deep south of Brazil, provided these ashes. He had this vine growing just outside his house, and during my visit in 2019, we smoked some of its leaves. They turned out to be much stronger than the leaves of the Ourinhos vine growing on the other side of his property.

In mid-2024, Paco informed me that he had to cut down the vine. To my surprise, he shared that he had burned the entire vine and prepared very clean and refined ash, perfect for crafting this unique rapé.

A Message from Paco

I received the Caupuri vine from a friend at the Santo Daime church, where I first experienced ayahuasca. In 2015 I planted it in my courtyard where it quickly became a protective guardian, providing much-needed shade. Unfortunately, a storm struck, toppling the tree it grew on. The vine’s branches fell onto the electricity grid, leaving me no choice but to cut it down. I planned to return it to the friend who had originally given it to me so he could prepare tea from the Caupuri vines.

However, this plan fell through when my friend’s house was flooded during a major storm in the south, making it impossible for him to make ayahuasca as intended. With no other option, I decided to turn the vine into ash. In hindsight, I’m glad I did it allowed me to preserve something meaningful and give it a new purpose.

Caupuri Vine

The Caupuri vine is easily recognizable by its large knots and is locally known as “The General.” Renowned as one of the strongest Caapi varieties from Brazil, Caupuri thrives in regions with abundant water. It grows particularly well in the rainy south of Brazil, much like in its original home, the Amazon.

The Caupuri vine is a significant and unique variant of the Banisteriopsis caapi vine, valued for its distinct properties in ayahuasca ceremonies. While it shares many characteristics with the broader caapi family, its knotty structure, alkaloid profile, and cultural significance make it a prized choice for specific spiritual and healing practices.

Climate and Rapé Quality

Proper storage is crucial to maintaining the quality of rapé. Humidity, temperature, and air exposure fluctuations will affect the product over time. For instance, in colder or drier regions, rapé can lose its natural moisture, becoming brittle and harsh to use. On the other hand, in areas with seasonal humidity or inconsistent storage conditions, it can still clump or develop mold if precautions aren’t taken. Regardless of where you live, investing in airtight containers, storing rapé in a cool and dark place, and monitoring humidity levels will ensure that its aroma, potency, and texture are preserved. Proper storage shows respect for the sacred nature of rapé and ensures that you’re receiving its full benefits every time you use it.

Tips to Preserve Snuff Quality

To ensure your Rapé Caupuri stays fresh and potent for as long as possible, especially in humid climates:

  1. Airtight Containers: Use containers with tight seals, such as screw-cap tins or vacuum-sealed jars, to minimize air exposure.
  2. Cool, Dark Storage: Store rapé in a cool, shaded area away from direct sunlight and heat sources. In tropical environments, consider using a climate-controlled storage space.
  3. Avoid Frequent Opening: Minimize the time the container is open to prevent exposure to fluctuating humidity and air.

Handling & Preparation of Rapé Caupuri

I sieve Rapé Caupuri and all other snuff in my shop using a 120-micron, high-grade stainless steel mesh. This meticulous process ensures:

  • An exceptionally fine powder.
  • Consistent fineness in every batch.
  • Removal of unwanted particles.
  • Optimal absorption and effectiveness.

To preserve quality, I store all rapé in dry, vacuum-sealed containers. These careful steps ensure every product meets the highest standards of freshness and effectiveness.

Maintaining Freshness and Potency

  • The stockroom is always kept:
    • Cool and dark to preserve the blend’s freshness and potency.
    • Free from excessive moisture and humidity, which can quickly ruin rapé.
  • I take extra precautions to:
    • Protect rapé from heat, light, and air exposure.
    • Keep everything organized for easy access and quality control.

Labeling Process

  • I handle the labeling myself to avoid:
    • Mislabeled products.
    • Misplaced batches.

When someone orders rapé, they can trust they’re receiving exactly what they asked for. While I strive for perfection, I occasionally make small mistakes, but these are rare and will be corrected.

Handling New Stock

When new shipments arrive, I carefully transfer the rapé into proper containers. This minimizes unnecessary exposure to air or light. I also:

  • Rotate stock regularly to ensure older batches are used first.
  • Store rapé in vacuum-sealed containers to maintain its freshness and quality.

Respecting the Product

Handling rapé is not complicated, but it requires attention to detail. For me, it’s about respecting the product and ensuring it reaches customers in the best possible condition.
