About Jatobá/Hymenaea Courbaril

Jatoba, officially known as Hymenaea courbaril. It is a tall rainforest canopy tree. Some Hymenaea courbaril trees reach towering heights of 90 feet.  The tree is part of the family Fabaceae. Extending from the north to the southeast of the national territory Hymenaea courbaril grows in Brazil. Since ancient times, Jatobá has been used in natural remedies for ailments including coughs and bronchitis, and many others.
it’s also a great booster of natural energy without any caffeine or other harmful stimulants. Many Amazonian people use Jatoba in various ways. The use of Hymenaea courbaril resin as a part of love potions is one example. This resin is also burned as incense at wedding ceremonies.

Chemical analysis of Hymenaea courbaril shows that it is rich in biologically active compounds including diterpenes, sesquiterpenes, flavonoids, and oligosaccharides. Jatoba also has notable antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
A study performed at the University of Brasilia in Brazil found that the phytochemicals, including phytic acid, in jatoba could help reduce swelling and irritation. It may also be beneficial in combating a wide array of harmful organisms, such as bacteria and viruses.

Medicinal Benefits: Jatobá is an excellent source of vitamin C and minerals such as iron, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, and calcium. It strengthens the immune system, regulates blood pressure, and aids in brain performance due to the presence of magnesium. Great decongestant and expectorant.

About the Maker

My friend Carlito from Sao Paulo made this Rapé. He practices various forms of plant-medicine work like all of my contacts do. In this work, he received instructions to open his path to Rapé. He has followed the instructions he received and has been making Rapé for several years now. Even without a connection with indigenous Indians, he learned to make high-quality types of Rapé and is still learning.

Carlito showed me the little altar space where he keeps his Rapé. Before any of his own rapé leave his house it stays in a room. Surrounded by various crystals and placed under a pyramid the Rapé stays there for a week.

At various moments in this period, he enters this room and prays towards the Rapé. A week of energizing and prayers is the final part of the work. The Rapé is ready now.
